Painting Tips From the Pros

Quality paint matters.
Painting is already one of the least expensive ways of improving your space. Since you only want to do your project once, use a high quality 100% acrylic paint like our Valspar Medallion.

Use a High Quality Brush
Buy a high quality brush for trimming around doors, windows, and baseboards. Most pros prefer Purdy or Wooster and 2-1/2 inch is our most popular size. A quality brush will last through many jobs if properly cleaned after use.

Use a roller extension handle.
A lightweight aluminum or fiberglass handle that screws into a roller frame will allow better control of the roller and help with hand fatigue. Extension poles come in a range of sizes and are usually adjustable. Consider using a pole around 18 inches (closed) for working in small to medium sized rooms.

Use a lightweight trim cup.
Carrying a gallon of paint when trimming out can be tiring. Ergonomic trim cups with a handle and magnet for holding a brush are inexpensive and will last for years.

Bill to Curb Copper Theft Passes Kentucky Legislature

House Bill 390 passed both the Kentucky House and Senate. Gov. Steve Beshear is expected to sign the measure that strengthens penalties for copper theft and puts more requirements on recyclers.

Bluegrass Politics reports:

Backers of House Bill 390 say it will curb the growing number of copper thefts in Kentucky by ensuring that only registered scrap metal recyclers can process the metal. Rep. Tanya Pullin, D-South Shore, and sponsor of the bill, has said that the majority of the state’s metal recyclers are behind the bill. Most of the stolen copper is taken to less-than-reputable scrap recyclers. Those recyclers will not register with the state.
