Kentucky House Passes Bill to Help Tornado Victims Rebuild

The Kentucky House passed a bill to help victims of the March 2 tornadoes rebuild. Lawmakers on both sides of the isle are pleased with the 96-0 vote for House Bill 165.

The Courier Journal reports:

The measure would allow residents in the 21-county federal disaster area to recoup sales taxes on materials used for rebuilding in tornado-ravaged areas.

Victims would have three years to file a claim by sending receipts to the state Department of Revenue, along with documents to verify that materials were used to repair or rebuild storm-damaged structures.

HB 165 also would stabilize state funding for area school districts that canceled classes for several weeks and continue to experience low attendance after the storms.

Russell County is included in the recent federal disaster declaration. So individual relief is available for victims of the recent tornados in our area.

The bill now goes to the Kentucky Senate and if apporved lawamers have asked for a fast-track plan for the govenor's signature.
